Mike Olivas knows that when inspiration strikes, you need to seize it—even when it strikes at a less than opportune moment. Olivas was running on the treadmill when he came up with the T.E.A.M. concept. Maybe it was the endorphins from his run or maybe it was a moment of clarity but he recognized the idea was a good one and went with it.After all, he has always believed in the power of a team. From his college days as a Kappa Sigma Fraternity brother to his career bringing brand awareness to targeted markets, Olivas knows the power of a team works. His success working with teams to produce big results was the motivation behind the founding of his group travel and marketing company T.E.A.M (travel, entertainment and marketing).
T.E.A.M. focuses on collegiate marketing and entertainment travel and assists with the planning of retreats and special events for a variety of organizations. However, T.E.A.M. specializes in assisting fraternities and sororities in planning their formals. Olivas’ unique experience with Greek culture in college was the foundation for building T.E.A.M. His perspective on the needs of fraternities and sororities in the formal planning process is the cornerstone of T.E.A.M.’s success.
His current marketing success with T.E.A.M. has its beginnings in sales and product branding within the college demographic. Prior to his experience with entertainment travel, Olivas spent several years in the collegiate marketing industry. He was the Area Recruitment Manager for Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he was the international Fraternity’s number one recruiter, overseeing more than 50 universities, rushing and training thousands of new members, and starting chapters all over the West Coast, including Hawaii and Canada.
His sales and marketing success continued when he went on to work as a sales and marketing manager for a college tourism travel company that offered spring break and snowboard trips. He tripled revenues with his assigned accounts generating more than $960,000 in sales revenues.
When it comes to college marketing, Olivas stood at the forefront hiring and managing hundreds of student ambassadors on college campuses all over North America for Monster and Rockstar energy drinks. Olivas was able to leverage his large network and knowledge of collegiate marketing to hire so many influential college students on hundreds of university and college campuses.
Olivas then spent two years as a premium brand specialist for Bacardi USA where he was responsible for the promotion, concerts and club event planning, and program creation for all brands in the Bacardi USA portfolio, including Grey Goose, Bombay Sapphire, Cazadores tequila, and more.
He then became the California State manager for TY KU Liqueur and worked on not only branding and marketing the new brand, but also creating awareness through specific A-list celebrities such as Jessica Biel and Will Smith.
Even prior to his work in sales and marketing, he was a proven leader. As an undergraduate of California State University, Sacramento, Olivas was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. As President his chapter earned the Founder’s Award for Chapter Excellence, Olivas was recognized as the International Chapter President of the Year, The Universities Club President of the Year, Champion of Recruitment and Distinguished Service awards.
That knowledge and experience has culminated into the foundation of the T.E.A.M. service model to provide student organizations, groups, and alumni convenience, customer service and fun on a budget. Olivas knows that at the end of the day it’s all about the team. That’s exactly what you are when you partner with T.E.A.M. to help plan your next event. www.teamexp.com
